Tea Time Treats December: The Round Up!

The turkey has been made into umpteen curries, only the Toffee Pennies remain in the Quality Street bumper tin and the tinsel is looking must be the end of December! And time for the Tea Time Treats Round-Up. The theme this month was Christmas Foodie Gifts, a super popular theme with over fifty entries!

As many of you know, this will be my very last hosting of Tea Time Treats- thank you for all your support and delicious recipes.

Chocolate Christmas Cracker Cake with Brandy Cream

The Advent Calendar is almost empty, the gifts are wrapped under the twinkling tree and the telly guide is covered in big circles.

The fridge is bursting, the 'Big Day' recipes marked and satsumas are stuffed into the bottom of stockings.

The Queen is learning her lines, choirboys are perfecting their carols and Father Christmas is somewhere over Norway.

Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree: Mince Pie Wreath

There hasn't been a new, great Christmas song for years. Novelty records and the John Lewis Christmas advert song simply don't count.

The glorious eighties, decade of The Pogues: Fairytale in New York, Wham: Last Christmas, the granddaddy of Charity Christmas tunes 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' and, erm, Cliff's Mistletoe and Wine is thirty years ago now. All we've had since is a yearly outing from Michael Buble covering Sinatra's back catalogue while dressed as Santa. And that Mr Blobby song that an entire nation has since denied purchasing despite it spending three weeks at Number 1 in 1993. You can't really imagine today's songwriters (except perhaps Sir Gary of Barlow) writing a Christmas song that will enable early retirement from the royalties alone, spending the rest of their days living out the 'About A Boy' dream (see: Mel 'Christmas Song' Torme and Irving 'White Christmas' Berlin).

Christmas Almond, Orange and Pistachio Biscotti

Is it too soon to start panicking about Christmas cooking?

Probably not. It's the seventh of December, most of us will have eaten two thirds of our Advent Calendar chocolates by now and swopped our standard egg and cress lunchtime sarnie for a festive 'Turkey Feast' offering.

'Tis the Season to be Jolly...with Mulled Wine Cupcakes

There are certain food items that are simply obligatory to consume in considerable quantity this time of year. Take for example the humble Mince Pie. As a nation we eat a whooping 370 million pies in the run up to the Big Day. That's 27 mince pies each or the equivalent of 8,640 calories per person. Or the equivalent, in my sweet toothed world, of an average weekday in December.
