Following the (ahem) glory of the What Kate Baked Christmas Carol Service, I present to you:
What Kate Baked does Valentines
Yep, an iconic poem all about romance and a popular verse all about love, the What Kate Baked way....
Roses
Roses are red, violets are blue
I've baked a biscuit, especially for you
Roses are red, violets are blue
This recipe is really quite simple to do
Roses are red, violets are blue
Tuck right in, they'll be perfect with a brew
Roses are red, violets are blue
Help yourself, roll up (You at the back, join the orderly queue)
Roses are red, violets are blue
No need to get impatient (yes, I know you know kung-fu)
Roses are red, violets are blue
There we are..enjoy! (whether your name is Bob or Barry, Samantha or Sue*)
*People with other names can also enjoy these biscuits
I
(sung to the tune of Frankie Valli's I Love You Baby)
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
You'd be like heaven to clutch
I wanna eat you so much
At long last love has arrived
And I thank God I'm alive
You're just too good to be true
Can't take my eyes off you
I'll eat you bisss-cuit
And if it's quite all right
I need you bisss-cuit
To eat on lonely nights I'll eat you bisss-cuit
Trust in me when I say
Oh, pretty bisss-cuit
Don't bring me down I pray oh, pretty bisss-cuit
Now that I found you, stay and let me eat you
Bisss-cuit let me eat you...
Valentine Heart Biscuits
These biscuits were based on a recipe in the brilliant Biscuiteers Book of Iced Biscuits. This book was one of those late-night Amazon purchases* and has sat unloved on the bookshelves for a number of months. But its full of cracking ideas and has a great step-by-step guide on making and decorating the perfect biscuit.
The plain biscuit recipe can be found here. I halved it, added half a teaspoon of almond extract and decorated it using the 'lining' and 'flooding' method (as seen here). It was my very first attempt at this (you may be able to tell).
Baker's notes...
- Decorating biscuits I find to be one of those 'project bakes' (I'm also talking to you cake pops and gingerbread house). Set aside a long afternoon, minimize disturbances, crank up your favourite music and you're all set
- A useful tip in the book is to dry the biscuits, upon immediately icing, in the oven set on a low heat for a few minutes
- I'll be entering this into February's Tea Time Treats blogging challenge, hosted by...me! Make sure to send us your entries by 28th February
* Always fatal as they have my card details, making transactions far too easy. I forget all about my purchases until a great big parcel arrives a few days later
I LOVE them Kate! They are JUST so sweet and romantic! GREAT entry for Tea Time Treats! XXX
